Mt. Tahoma High School
Mount Tahoma High School opened its doors in 1961 to serve the growing South Tacoma neighborhood. Mount Tahoma is the Native
American name for Mount Rainier which looms to the west of the campus. The California open concept and rambling design of the campus was not suited to rainy Northwest weather and students often moved between classes with umbrellas and raincoats. The school was rebuilt and opened in a new location in 2004 and the original campus finally closed its doors in 2009.
