Old Town Tacoma—Est. 1865
In 1865, Job Carr built his cabin close to the shoreline and is the original location of the settlement called “Tacoma”. Old Town was originally a separate community near what is now downtown Tacoma. The two areas eventually merged into one and became “Tacoma”. The settlement was sustained in its early days by fishing and lumber mills. Old Town is the location of two buildings on the national Historic Registry, St. Peter’s Church, the first church built in Tacoma in 1873, and Slavonian Hall. Today the area features historic Job Carr Park and a range of popular restaurants and shops.
